The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Kolkata a premier forensic institution was established in 1957 under the aegis of Intelligence Bureau, M.H.A., Govt. of India to provide forensic support in investigation of criminal and civil matters with four disciplines viz., Ballistics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Then, in 1973, CFSL, Kolkata was brought under its administrative control the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D) under Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, New Delhi. In the year 1988 Government of India restructured the Forensic Science set-up and Forensic Science was brought under ‘Plan’. As a part of the scheme, two more divisions, viz., Toxicology and Explosives were established at CFSL, Kolkata. Dr. N.K.
